A Biblical Perspective on Current Events

"Look to Me and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other" (Isaiah 45:22)

Biblical Wisdom in Our Global Conflict

October 3, 2001

The prophet Isaiah gives divine perspective to God's covenant people that are involved in a global war on terrorism: "Look to Me and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other" (Isaiah 45:22). We who believe in the God of the Bible and are followers of Jesus Christ of Nazareth for our salvation must keep our values and priorities in perspective as we make political covenants with other nations in our war to maintain all of our democracies' freedoms. We must keep uppermost in our minds that every major religion is inherently intolerant of other religions.

Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). After His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension to His Messianic reign, His apostles wrote, "This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.' Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:11-12). If we remove the cornerstone, we have no access to the kingdom power of God-no power, no convictions, no passion, no love of the truth that is in Christ Jesus. Watered down Christianity is a stench in the nostrils of Father God. Those who are lukewarm He will spew out of His mouth (Revelation 3:16).

The question then becomes, "How shall we live in this present evil age?" Let me offer some guidelines to our American cultural Christians (remember Christians live all over the globe).

First, we must pledge our allegiance to Father God through the living Christ. "In Him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28a).

Second, we must pledge our allegiance to the flag and to the Republic for which it stands.

Third, we must ask Father God to give us the assurance that we are under His delegated spiritual authority in our local community of covenant faith. If we are not, ask Him to place us under that place of protection, provision, and freedom.

Fourth, we must pray regularly for the spiritual and civil leaders over us locally, nationally, and globally.

Fifth, we must realize that as believers in spiritual union with Father God through Christ, we will never be separated from God. If we are chosen to face physical death for the cause of Christ, we will transition into our spiritual bodies in the heavenlies forever.

In summary, sovereign God says, "It is He (sovereign God) who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers" (Isaiah 40:22). To His beloved in Christ, Father God says, "See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands" (Isaiah 49:16). To the whole earth, Father God says, "Look to Me and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath" (Isaiah 45:22, 23).

These words are written with loving respect for every individual's human dignity and civil rights.
