More than any other time in history, the authority of the inspired Word of God is being challenged in our society today. Therefore, God is raising up voices of truth to continue the Reformation that began in the sixteenth century.

Martin Luther’s words in defense of the Scriptures, as he stood before the Diet of Worms in 1521, are still applicable today as we face the “last days” madness regarding end-times teachings (eschatology). Luther said,

Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust in the pope or councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures…and my conscience is captured by the Word of God…I cannot do otherwise.

Atheists, liberals, and Jewish and Muslim skeptics reject the authority of the Scriptures. They claim Jesus did not return as He and His apostles prophesied He would. To answer the Bible’s critics, we must understand and declare how the Scriptures were fulfilled. End-time prophecies are easily understood when the time statements are kept in their historical and cultural settings. We must ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten us as to what is literal and/or symbolic in the biblical texts. The time and nature of biblical prophecies must be determined to understand their fulfillment. To comprehend the apostles’ New Testament writings, we must have a knowledge of the language of the prophets in the Old Covenant.
